We’ve been meaning to go to Lunchbox Laboratory, pretty much since we moved to Seattle how many months ago. Well, sometimes we procrastinate. In fact, we couldn’t have procrastinated more, in order to try Lunchbox Lab before they closed, and venture on to their new location in South Lake Union. There we were, on their last day of operation, finally eating their burgers!
The burgers here are ridiculously customizable, with multiple meats, cheeses, sauces, and extra toppings. To keep things simple, we went with two of their specials.
I ordered the burger of the gods, which had gorgonzola cheese and a huge pile of beautifully caramelized onions. Savory, with a touch of sweetness, super juicy, messy, and a bit greasy. Really, really tasty, though! As a side, I opted for the onion sticks, which were on the well-done side, making them a bit crunchy, which is how I like them.
I can’t remember the name of the burger Adam went with but it had bacon, onions, and chiles… a bit too much for me! He also ordered a side of tater tots, and an oreo milk shake. The tater tots were good, although I liked the onion sticks better. The milk shake? A bit too sweet for me.
Overall, definitely one of the better burgers I’ve had in Seattle. Not cheap, but made with quality ingredients, and you definitely get a lot of food… we didn’t eat anything else the rest of that day.
It’ll be interesting to see what changes (if any) are implemented into the menu after the move, and subsequent new co-ownership. I hope they keep the same kitschy decor (I think they are going to), and keep the menu simple.
